| Title: | Examination into the culture of poverty |

| Issue Date: | 19-Dec-2007 |
| Abstract: | There is often a misunderstanding between poverty per se and the culture of
poverty. Poverty is defined as an individual lack of economic capital. The culture of
poverty however, is a more complex phenomenon in which the poor pass on to their
children the very attitudes and values which make them poor, thus creating a cycle of
both cultural and economic disparity. By conducting a further examination of the culture
of poverty it becomes easier to see how interdependent the various contributing factors
are that help to define this subculture of apathy, despair and poverty. |
